"Everything I needed to succeed was easily available. The Maxine's BURN products were delicious and reasonably priced, the nutrition and meal plans were easy to follow, and the training programs were varied and do-able."
Tone & Shape
I completed the challenge in 2014 with a private profile and was happy with my results. Since then I have continued with some gym training but fallen back into poor eating habits. I am determined to complete the challenge this year and finish the 12 weeks stronger, leaner and in the best shape I have ever been!
Everything I needed to succeed was easily available. The Maxine's BURN products were delicious and reasonably priced, the nutrition and meal plans were easy to follow, and the training programs were varied and do-able. There was also unlimited support and knowledge provided by the Coaches and Ambassadors on the forum. The Challenge provided information on everything; nutrition, diet and exercise in easy to follow steps and this meant that it was up to me to commit to the 12 weeks. There were no excuses except my own as everything was there for me to succeed.
For me, maintaining the level of commitment I had chosen at the start was the hardest thing. As I was accountable for my results and all the resources were made available to me, I wanted to do everything I could and give it my all. Maxine’s Challenge is flexible in that way, it is what you make it. My goal was to finish the 12 weeks in the best shape I have ever been. Some days were harder than others, I found socializing difficult at first, as it is often food orientated, and at work people were asking me why I was eating vegetables for lunch and saying ‘no’ to cake. At first I was embarrassed to explain that I was doing the Challenge, but now I feel empowered by my choices. I have worked through my insecurities and am proud of the healthy lifestyle I have created!
Maxine’s Challenge has been a great start to an ongoing healthy life. For me it wasn't a diet and workout program, it was a commitment to learn about nutrition and exercise, and then live the knowledge and lifestyle. One of the main lessons for me has been portion control, and going forward I know that before I started the 12 weeks (although I wasn’t aware of it) I struggled with associating treat food with guilt. I have learnt that it is about balance overall and an occasional treat does not mean all my hard work will be undone.I have also found a real love of healthy fresh food! I used to think healthy was time consuming, expensive and bland. Through the Challenge I have enjoyed eating fresh, flavor packed, preservative free meals and they don’t take any longer to prepare or cost more. Cooking can be fun!The Challenge was a great opportunity for me to try something new and get out of my routine. At the beginning of the Challenge I would have said I didn’t like weight training and I preferred cardio. Now having tried new exercises, learning the reasons behind why they are beneficial and seeing the results, I love weight training!
Maxine’s Challenge is an opportunity; it is up to you what you choose to make of it. You may surprise yourself by what you achieve and it is free to sign up, why not try it? To me the Challenge has been so much more than just changing my physical appearance. I am proud of what I have achieved and I see the strength, determination and courage I have shown when I look at my results. For me, this was step one towards a healthy lifestyle and I am excited for what is ahead.
The last twelve weeks have been a total commitment to the Challenge. Some associate the commitment with deprivation, I think of it as dedication. I have given my all to the Challenge from day one and to me that means I am a Winner.I would like to thank the Maxine Community, especially the Coaches and Ambassadors for making the last 12 weeks a great experience. The forum especially has been a great way to connect with other Challengers and relate to the ideas, struggles and achievements of others. At the beginning of the 12 weeks I made a commitment to blog everyday, and I have stuck to this with only a few exceptions. In the next few weeks I am going to put together a photobook of my blog so I can look back on it in years to come as a keepsake of what I was feeling at different stages. My husband Nathan completed the Max’s Shred Program and has achieved amazing results. I am so proud of him. I am also grateful for the support and encouragement I have received from Nathan, my family, friends and my new gym friends too.The quote that really sums up the last twelve weeks for me going forward is “Your confidence must be strong enough to claim your success!” and thanks to Maxine’s Challenge, my confidence now is!
Sneak peek at last nights photo shoot at the gym!
Beautiful 'congratulations on finishing the Challenge' flowers from my gorgeous Mum.
All spray tanned :-) I enjoyed a light weights session this morning. Feels good to not lift heavy and just have a cruisy workout.
Hair done and spray tan ready :-)
I was awake for about 3 hours last night in the middle of the night. I was So tired today I slept in rather than went to the gym. I feel guilty for missing a session but have read that sleep is probably more important so close to photo day. I hope I catch up tonight. Zzzzzzz
Light weights, more reps for shoulders and back at the gym this morning! I really enjoy doing weight training now. And there are so many different exercises and ways to train I am looking forward to taking my love of weight training past the finish line and making it part of my life post challenge!
Week In Review
It was a good week. I trained hard, ate well and did abs everyday! :-) I really want some more definition in my stomach before the final photo. I am now 56.4kg after loosing .5 this week and am very happy with my results.
We are on the home stretch!
I have now have the Final Coundown song playing on loop in my head. hahaha
This pics is from today, we had a Birthday party sack race! I didn't win but still got a medal! Woo woo! and am pretty sure I burnt some calories along the way :-)
Nate and I did a HIIT cardio sessio this morning at the gym on the treadmill. I love to run to a song called Sandstorm by Darude. I played it twice. It has such good peaks when running fast! Music makes such a difference in a cardio workout.
Fresh fish for dinner to celebrate mother's day tomorrow with Nate's mum.
Nate and I trained legs at the gym this morning. I was hitting 20 reps per set as Ben my Pt said less weight but higher reps can help to tone. It was a good workout. Did abs also. My 6 pack hasn't arrived yet. Lol. Still waiting! :-)
Didn't want to get out of bed for my workout. When I did I thought this shirt was appropriate!
A little treat for myself, rewarding my efforts so far with a new dress :-)
I trained back and shoulders this morning. I have gone down in weights this week as I don't think I have been fully recovered from the previous workout. Despite my nice massage on Monday I am sore all over! Lol. Not long to go now though. Yippee!
The rest will be revealed very soon!
Week In Review
This week in review is a day late which is rather fitting as I have been so exhausted I feel like I am playing catch-up on everything this week!
Nutrition wise I have been very good. I have decided to cut out adding salt to meals for the next 3 weeks. It has not been too difficult so far although on chicken and steak a bit of salt does = a lot of taste. I am hoping this will help with my bloating as I have been a little puffy lately and feeling very full, over full, after some meals.
Workouts have been intense this week. On saturday I think I did legs on auto-pilot and I don't known how I got through but I managed. I did not feel motivated at all so I just counted each set and each exercise and somehow got through.
I had a back massage this afternoon and have been catching a few day time naps over the weekend which will hopefully see me through the week as the early starts are really draining. But the results are worth it!
Biceps, Triceps and Chest day today! Nate and I trained together in the morning at the gym.
Meal prep Sunday!
It's raining! No parkrun so off to the gym
Romantic healthy dinner prepared by Nate. Yummy!
My body scan. I am so proud of myself and what I have achieved. I am also really proud of Nate, who got 83/100, beat me by 1! hahaha.
Today I trained back and abs this morning before work. I am really trying hard with abs as I would like them to be visible for the final photo. At this stage I don't know if that is achievable but it won't stop me from trying :-)
Coordinating my workout gear :-)
Supplies! very happy with my delivery today.
i trained shoulders in a shared Pt session with my friend Hayley This morning before work. Our trainer Ben showed us some awesome ways to work Abs without knowing it. I find crunches a bit repetitive so it was nice to try something new.
Doing floor work with my furry trainer :-) and delicious kangaroo fillets for dinner.
Ready for week 9!
Week In Review
No tears this week! I have been happy with my training, maintained good nutrition and can see the finish line in site! This week has not felt like a struggle. If anything, I think the terrible storm where we live has put things in perspective and helped me to realise that healthy eating and exercise can be worked into life, not life worked around them!
Nate has been working crazy overtime hours this week due to the storm and I am so proud of him. He has missed one workout so far, although his nutrition has been spot on! He takes everything in his stride and is 100% committed to the Challenge.
This week I gave away the only easter chocolate I received. It was my favourite, a marvellous Cadbury bunny. Before the challenge I may have eaten it in one go, possible two sittings but it would have only lasted a day. It was given to me by someone with good intentions for 'after the challenge'. I decided to give it away because this is not 12 weeks of healthy eating and exercise, it's a lifestyle choice going forward. A big lesson I am taking with me is portion control. The bunny was 190grams, 7 servings according to the label. that is a lot! In future I think I am best to buy a single chocolate bar if I feel like a treat. Not a block. That way If I eat a Marsbar or Twix bar, it is gone and temptation removed. I have struggled in the past with value in things like treats. Often the bigger size is cheaper or better value for money. As a child we did not have treats very often and perhaps this is a reason why sometimes I used to over indulge. Going forward I will remind myself that a treat is a once off, paying a little extra for a single serve will help me control my portions, not over indulge and I will feel happier for this. It is a mind shift but a positive one and I am looking forward to practicing it post challenge!
Early morning workout for Team Milajew! Nice to see the sunshine considering the weather lately!
An afternoon walk with this cutie pooch. I did chest, biceps and triceps this morning. Supersets are exhausting!
Wild Weather in Lake Macquarie!
The wild weather has prevented me from blogging over the last few days. At the start of the challenge I wanted to blog a photo every day of the challenge so that at the end I could make a photobook to remember the 12 weeks process. Nate and I have been without power since Tuesday morning, thankfully our house has no damage and our family and friends are safe. Unfortunately not everyone has been so lucky.
It has been a wild 48 hours with Nate working overtime in reponse to the storm. Luckily my Mum lives 2 minutes drive from our house and I have spent the past few afternoons and nights at her place. She also had plenty of room in her fridge and freezer for our "Challenge" food, so nutrition wise we have done very well.
The pics above were posted by my friend and fellow Challenger, Carmen Allen. They show part of our Lake Mac Parkrun track at Speers Point.
This weekend Nate and I will be training extra hard to catchup on missed workouts!
Pumping biceps at the gym! Training with Nate and doing supersets, awesome workout today!
We have prepared lunches for the week and I have tried to be super organised by packing my weeks worth of afternoon protein (for work). All this organising make me feel stressed :-) think I need a massage to relax.
Week In Review
It is called a challenge for a reason! This has been a tough week. Emotionally I feel I have been struggling. Physically I have been struggling. And just to add a little more to the mix some health issues I have been having on and off since mid-last year have been giving me pain and discomfort. But this is not a whinge session and none of these hurdles are standing in my way. So many people have problems far more challenging than mine. I am ready for the next 4 weeks, bring it on! I can see the finish line now!
This photo was taken this morning as Team Milajew headed outgoing for an early morning cardio session. Our swipe card at the gym didn't work but that didn't mean we skipped the workout :-) insted we went on a nice walk in the sunshine. It was lovely.
On a positive note, I have reached my lowest weight since I have been eating healthy and weighing myself (started in Oct 2013)! Which I estimate would mean this is the lowest weight I have been since I was a teenager. Even when I was in my teens I was too scared to weigh myself as I knew I did not live a healthy lifestyle and was overweight. I know the numbers on the scales do not always reflect results but to me this is a huge achievement and I am very pruod of myself.
Thanks to everyone on the forum for writing comments and asking questions. This week the challenge community has really helped me. I love the positivity and feel I feed off others positive thoughts. Facebook is good too. Also, the Coaches and Ambassadors are amazing and help me feel really supported. Thanks guys! xx
Parkrun this morning with the girls, Michelle and Nate. We walked as it's legs day. Will be training legs together this afternoon. I'm scared! Lol.
Gym, eat, sleep repeat!
I trained shoulders and back today. I wasn't sure what one of the exercises on my program was so I substituted it with another back exercise insted. I am going to go through the new program properly on the weekend and watch the video demos etc. Nate will train legs with me tomorrow at my gym too so if I remember I will ask him.
Perfect quote for how I am feeling at the moment!
Very happy with my week 8 Photo! You can't tell from the big grin on my face :-)
Training shoulders and calves at the gym today. No records but a consistent effort.
Delicious fish for dinner served with salad, eggplant and some made guacamole. Yummy!
Legs and back at the gym this morning with Hayley and PT Ben. It was good fun. I think I will be sore tomorrow!
dinner tonight was chicken breast stuffed with mushrooms and cooked in the oven. Yum yum! I am really enjoying the lifestyle shift towards clean cooking, no preservatives. not that long ago Nate and I would have eaten frozen or semi-prepared food most nights choosing things such as crumbed chicken from the deli or pre packaged or frozen foods. Now we eat fresh food and add fresh or dried ingredients such as herbs and spices for flavour and its great. I dont feel limited by the food on the meal plan because there is a lot of things you can add to your basic protein and veg meal to add flavour and texture. These habits are definitely going to continue after the challenge!
Back it up! i have been seeing results, and others have too :-)
Week In Review
Hooray it is week 7 now! We are more than half way! week 6 was tough. Physically I feel I managed well with good consistent training. Emotionally it has been a bit of a battle. I feel Nate and I have been sacrificing a lot of social activities lately because of the challenge and that is tough. Although our friends have been supportive and understanding it is disappointing for me to willingly say no to a celebration or activity because it does not fit in with our training or eating. But we keep on going and each day is different. I know at the end those friends who we havent spent as much time with will be pruod of our achievements and happy to join in our end of challenge celebrations! :-) sometimes I feel strong and that then end of the 12 weeks is near, other times it feels like an eternity. I want to focus on taking everyday as it comes, recognising that yes this is hard and there are times I do feel like giving up. As long as I don't give up, I am a Winner!
I lost 100 grams this week! A loss is still a loss! hahaha. From past experience a small loss one week can often mean a bigger one the next. Let's hope so! Although I am not worried about finishing weight. The numbers of the scales are irrelevant. How I look and feel matters more. How I continue my good habits after the 12 weeks are finished matters the most.
Chicken patties for dinner!
27.59 minutes for Parkrun today! A great morning for a run, no headphones, no watch for timing, just a fun run. Nate also ran an awesome 27.25, he is getting faster each week.
Loving the Hilltop Hoods for Shoulders and Triceps today! I didn't use to like training shoulders but now I do, seeing results sure can improve your motivation :-)
Meal prepping eggs for tomorrow. 2 whites, 1 egg, hot sauce and a few teaspoons of benefibre and it puffs up like a pancake :-)
I did a big workout today. A morning walk with Nate and Stella followed by a hiit cardio session on the treadmill at the gym then trained back at the gym after work. Feeling good!
My new mixer. $15 from kmart. I have already made some delicious shakes!
This mornings workout was a cardio session. 10 minutes on the treadmill, 12.5 incline at 5.5km then elliptical for 20 minutes, 30 seconds at level 6, 30 seconds at level 9. Katy Perry on the earphones! :-)
Hooray! Opening a new box of choc-latte maxine burn protein! I have missed this.
A huge gym session this morning training legs, I'm thinking I will be sore tomorrow.
Week in Review This week I achieved a new PB, 20kg bicep barbell curls! I am so happy with this. Nate came to the gym with me on Tuesday when I did biceps, as I felt I needed some help with training. I push myself more when I have someone with me. He was also very proud.
Monday morning I did a shared PT legs session with Ben (Trainer) and my friend Hayley. We had a tough session and by the time I was at work I felt dizzy and needed to go home. I spent the day in bed watching TV and resting. I had felt light-headed a few days before but the dizzy spells had not lasted long. I could not concerntrate and felt ill in the stomach also. I was worried I may have been coming down with a virus. Thankfully by the night time I was feeling better and was out of bed. I found on the forum that this feeling can be common in week 6 due to the intensity of training. The rest of the week I felt fine and have put in more hard sessions. Although I find legs is always the hardest!
We enjoyed a great Easter break and had a lovely lunch on Easter Sunday with family. Nate and I hosted so we could ensure the food was healthy and suitable for our meal plan. We did not indulge in anything too far removed from the challenge nutritional guide which feels good :-)
The Challenge facebook has had some great quotes. One I particularly like is "Your confidence must be strong enough to claim your success." I feel this really speaks to me.
I am looking forward to seeing further results in the coming weeks. I know my initial weight loss was awesome, now I am looking for further definition and tone. The weeks are going fast and I think week 12 will sneak up on me, I just hope I am ready. If I keep giving 100% in the gym and eating according to the nutrition guide I can't go wrong.
Regardless of where I may place in the overall competition, if I can look back and say I gave the 12 weeks everything I had, I will be a Winner!
Eating healthy lunch with the family today for Easter Sunday!
I think this would have been the first year in a long time that I have not eaten chocolate for breakfast. I am proud of myself for sticking to the meal plan today. Nate and I hosted his family at our house for lunch and cooked up chicken breast, sweet potato, sausages and I made guacamole and a broccoli salad. It was delicious.
We received a chocolate bunny each from Nate's parents but these will be for after challenge. Although mine does look tempting, it is marvellous chocolate which is my favourite, I am not considering eating it. I feel committed to this 12 weeks and am now curious what my results are going to be.
Today I weighed myself and I am 59kg. The lightest I have been since I have been eating well and exercising is 58kg. I am almost at that weight and only half way in to the challenge. It's very exciting to think of the results I will achieve in 6 weeks time!
Team Milajew getting ready for a cardio session. We missed parkrun this morning because of the rain so hit the gym for a run on the treadmill and elliptical :-) Nate did his 20 mins on the treadmill.
A morning walk with Nate and Stella followed by a shoulders and triceps session in the gym trained by Nate. He pushes me harder and makes me want to push myself more. My inspiration! I would never had even thought of weight training let alone committing to a 12 week Challenge if it weren't for him. Thanks hubby!
Loving my new haircut! It's a new me. Today I did an EXTRA weights exercise at the gym. This is a new me:-) I would never had done more than the minimum before, particularly when it comes to weights!
Still sore today after legs on Monday!
Workout for today was a a morning cardio session before work, 5mins warmup walking on 12.5 incline on the treadmill, 10minutes run/ walk on the treadmill, 10 minutes on the recumbent bike.
Today's food is worth mentioning as the fruit is delicious at the moment! I had a nashi pear with my eggs for breakfast, I eat half before gym and half after. Then for morning tea i had a yummy pear. Nate cooked fish for dinner, very tasty. We are going to have steak for lunch tomorrow instead of tuna and have tuna Friday instead as it's Good Friday. being food organised makes life much easier :-)
20kg barbell curl, 8 reps! Woop woop! :-) makes lifting stella easy.
Another great food day with delicious chicken for dinner. Thanks Nate!
My afternoon shake. crushed ice in the blender with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Delicious!
I was unwell today. Spent the day in bed. I have been feeling dizzy lately and I went to work after gym this morning but wasn't right so I came home. Feeling rested up now though :-)
Week In ReviewI am proud of my efforts this week both with my diet and in the gym. I feel I finished the week of weights on a high as my effort of Friday was really good. Over the weekend I did my cardio sessions and today I am exhausted :-) but proud, which makes it feel worthwhile.
It does seem like Easter eggs are everywhere and it is a little tempting. I'm sure on the weekend it will be even more so but I can say no. And I will. We (Team Milajew) have planned ahead and told our Mum's not to buy us chocolate this year, they both understand we are on the challenge so that is good. Nate and I have agreed no Easter presents for each other too. My philosophy prior to this challenge would have been to still receive chocolate at Easter and eat it all after I finish challenge but I am breaking this former way of thinking. This 12 week committment is only the start of a new way of thinking about food and health and creating new habits that are going to last.
I have a shared PT session in the morning so it will be a great start to another week of hard training and healthy eating! Bring on the next 7 weeks!
27.19 for my 5km run this morning! Super happy with this time as I have not run in a few weeks. Very proud of Team Milajew, Nate ran an awesome 27.23 and went out hard in the first half, almost catching me on the way back. Felt good to do an early morning cardio session and know the workout was done for the day!
Early morning selfie! The meal plan is on the fridge in the background. Nate and I are always planning ahead to our next meal so we need these handy :-)
this morning I trained shoulders and triceps and smashed it! Very proud of myself. And one of my gym buddies said I was looking good in the chest/ arms, so I was feeling pretty special. It's so nice when others notice!
Cooking up a healthy meal for my man! He is looking awesome thanks to hard training on the Max's program.
Today was biceps and a little bit of back with some abs. I went up in weight on dumbbell curls :-) feeling proud.
A small dinner tonight as I am not hungry and feeling very bloated.
I did a shared morning pt session this morning of chest, back, shoulders. I like how many different exercises I am learning! Gym is fun when you can try new things :-) my trainer is also really encouraging which helps. I don't feel like an idiot when I don't know how to use a machine. Having my friend sharing the session with me is great too. She is very healthy and committed to regular exercise which is inspiring. after this program I hope to be like her, able to indulge occasionally but focused on the importance of a healthy diet and exercise regime.
today was a successful food day too. Tuna and rice is probably my favourite lunch. I also feel a sense of achievement when I resist the temptation of eating food not on the plan, as today there was an afternoon tea at work for harmony day. Although, today i was feeling strong so I don't know if I really felt tempted at all by the cakes and biscuits. I go through peaks of feeling very committed and then struggling with being tempted by unhealthy choices. It is empowering when the struggles are over though and I know I stayed on track!
love this pic! And it's so true, I am starting to see some great changes, so I guess you can say I am getting serious. Lol.
Week in review:
This week has been challenging, mostely due to food. I have was struggling in Melbourne as I had never been there and there was so much awesome food and nice places to eat. But we stuck to the plan for most of it. :-) Nate and I enjoyed a delicious seafood platter and my portion control was way out when I indulged in a 350g steak. Its nice to be home and be able to prepare all meals, it makes portion control easy!
The week ahead will be portion controlled meals with plenty of exercise. Our sunday cook up of lunches is complete!
My friend and I are sharing a one hour PT session tomorrow, I am prepared to be sore! I would also like to try something different this week, perhaps a class at the gym or maybe something I don't usually do. I'm prepared get out of my comfort zone! I really like mixing things up and keeping exercise enjoyable.
Today, as I do most days, I scrolled the forum to read what others had written to get some tips and also for inspiration. I feel really supported by the forum and facebook posts the Maxine community provides. This challenge is hard at times but I know it will be worth it. Seeing what other people have written can be really inspiring and I am grateful that others ask questions and post what they are feeling. I love my blog for recording this journey but it is nice reading the forum to know how others are going.
Ready to go hard for the next 8 weeks! 4 weeks down already! It really does not sound like long to go!
Sunday cardio session this morning and some new tunes! I have Katy Perry, Hilltop Hoods, Taylor Swift and a few old school tracks and a couple of workout mixes too. Cardio is so much better with tunes!
A 20 minute gym session this morning followed by parkrun or parkwalk in my case ! Although I did skip some of the way with this little one :-)
My new addition to the shaker collection! Maxine shaker is the perfect size for on the go :-)
A good training session this morning. i went up in weight with shoulders and triceps which always feels good. I feel I may need to start adding in some more ab exercises as plank felt easy today.
Turkey breast steak for dinner. Delicious!
Special delivery! Looking forward to try the Maxine night time later tonight :-)
Last day in Melbourne and a morning walk before breakfast.
Part 2. A continuation from my previous blog today. After a 20 minute hiit gym session (bike and elliptical) I put on my bikini for a relaxing swim in the hotel pool and that reminded me why I am doing this challenge! :-) choosing to eat healthy meals and choosing to workout allows me to feel confident in my body. I know looks aren't everything but self confidence is something I have been lacking for many years. As for confidence in my body and the way I look, I don't know if I have ever had that. If I did, it hasn't been around for a very long time but now I have it again, im keeping it! Healthy eating plus working out makes me feel happy and confident!
This is the awesome view from our hotel room.
Today has been a food struggle. It started last night when we were looking for a restaurant and couldn't find somewhere. Looking for somewhere to eat when your hungry is not a good idea. I was getting cranky and contemplating just eating anything, throwing the meal plan out the window. but we found a nice looking cafe that didn't want to charge 50 for a steak and enjoyed a 350g steak each. I know portion control was out the window on the protein serve but it was accompanied by approximately 1 cup of beans, broccoli and snow peas, so I ate the lot and felt guilty afterwards. :-(
Today I had a chicken salad for lunch. It was basic with tomatoes, cucumber and about half a potato. I put the full amount of dressing on and used some of the fat free mayonnaise. It tasted nice but I struggle with paying 20 for something I could have made myself. Feeling very restricted meal wise but I know its because im on holidays. And I know when I go home I will be glad I ate well and close to the plan. I know it will be worth it in 9 weeks but im still a little sad. This is called a challenge for a reason!
Team Milajew training hard together today in Melbourne!
Ready to train legs! Team milajew trained together today in Melbourne. I love this city! Went for a walk this morning by the river and a walk in the city this arvo. Good times :-)
Photos from today at the Arnold Classic expo!
Tonights dinner thanks to the Arnold Classic expo. $10, bargain! We took them back to the hotel for dinner, got one for tomorrow too.
First day I have skipped a workout. I intend to fit a cardio session in to make up for it sometime this week though.
At the airport waiting for our flight! So excited :-) we are planning on dropping our bags at the hotel and heading straight to the expo! Then tonight is the Arnold Classic. Woo woo!
MAXINE red for Melbourne! Woop woop!
i trained shoulders and triceps this morning and feel I am making good improvements in shoulders. I am really happy with this as previously it has been one of my weaker areas and least favourite exercises. I have leaned out in the chest area which is good, hopefully the thighs and arms will follow soon :-)
it has been a stressful weak with a few family issues and Stella being sick so I have been sleep deprived but am really looking forward to melbourne. It's amazing how food /self become one of the last priorities when your stressed, at least for me anyway. I am 100% committed to this challenge and the eating plan but with so much going on I have found myself thinking! who cares if I don't eat right. But I would care. Maybe not right at that time but I would care later and be disappointed with myself. I am proud of myself for not resorting to food when I have been upset or under pressure because it would be so easy to put that priority aside.
looking forward to 5 amazing days in Melbourne! I am determined to eat clean .........and get a selfie in the Maxine stand!
An intense workout training back today! I didn't realise it would be so exhausting! I definitely need to improve my wide grip lat pull downs.
i tried my afternoon protein with a few teaspoons of water and made it a chocolate mousse/ paste. Interesting but not as good as a shake. I do like trying new things though. Even cutting up my veggies in different sizes or slicing fruit different I find helps keep the meal plan interesting. I know, I sound weird. I don't care! Lol.
Puppy pic today as my poor little girl Stella was sick last night and kept me up most of the night with worry. Thankfully today she is much better. Hopefully I will have a good sleep tonight!
Today's gym session was cardio. 10 minutes of level 10 incline on the treadmill at about 5.5km followed by an intense 20 minutes on for 30 seconds off for 30 seconds session on the elliptical. I didn't realise how hard this was until the weekend! It's exhausting! I think this is more beneficial for me than doing a group exercise class at the gym so I will be sticking to this type of training for cardio. I need to ask someone how to use the stepper though, i had a go last week but seemed to sink, lol.
Some new additions to the inspiration board! Thanks to Nate for printing them off. Sonia is awesome!
Today I trained chest and biceps and abs. I wasn't happy with my form on chest. I was doing incline bench and couldn't get the weight up and rolled my shoulder. It didn't hurt straight away, it is a little tender now but I think I rolled out of it ok, so hopefully all good! I wasn't feeling much pump in by biceps either which is unusual. I have rated today's workout as so-so in my fit book.
loving the fit book! I haven't had a bad meal yet! I think it is good to stay positivity and not think of the foods you aren't having, rather focus on the ones you are. I get 6 healthy, fresh meals a day and so many people don't have that. I am grateful to be able to eat this.
Team Milajew now has a selfie stick! Watch out blog! :-) with the Arnold Classic this weekend there will no doubt be a lot of selfies! I am really hoping I can meet Janet Kane at the Maxine stand at the expo and get a pic with her!
feeling a little sore after the big legs session yesterday! DOMS are proof you trained hard! Woo!
An awesome first personal training session this morning! I have not pushed so hard in the gym ever! My legs were shakey we trained so hard. I feel this pic will be me tomorrow :-) but it feels good to have gone hard and pushed through. I have spoken to the trainer Ben about booking in for some more sessions every couple of weeks. I feel committing to the sessions now will help me stay focused and on track with my training.
lunch today was also a winner. mixing the tuna, rice and avocado together with some chilli, delicious!
The week two wrap up.
This week has been a great week but exhausting too. I have stuck to my meal plans 100% with the exception of eating dinner out on friday night. I chose grilled barramundi fillet with salad, no dressing, and only lemon on the fish so I still had a suitable meal, just not what was prescribed for that night.
My body feels tired from the training but I have been making improvements in the gym and increasing my weights. Tomorrow morning I am having my first ever PT session with a friend of mine from the gym, we are going halves to see what its like. I am excited! Hopefully I can learn some of the machines I don't know how to use.
Nathan and I have a trip to Melbourne booked and leave on Saturday. We have been looking forward to it for months as we are going to the Arnold Classic! I am confident we will stick to suitable meals and know that being in such an inspirational environment will help us both stay focused on our diet and exercise when we are away.
Looking forward to week 3 and being one week closer to success!
On our way to gym for a Sunday session!
Tonights dinner of mustard chicken and grilled veggies looked so good I had to take a pic. Delicious!
Saturday Parkrun! Nate and I have been doing parkrun of a Saturday morning at Lake Mac (Lake Macquarie, the course starts at Booragul) since November 2013. We both started with walking/running the course until we improved our fitness and were able to run the course, which is 5km. Parkrun kick started my fit lifestyle and since then I have not looked back. I really love my Saturday morning runs or walks, and have met some new friends too. Some of our family members also do parkrun regularly and its great to see them there and have a chat after or before the run. There is a great sense of community and lots of encouragement.
The latest edition to Team Milajew's motivation board! Another early morning wake up, it's legs day!
Love this quote! Thanks Nate :-) I'm up early this morning to try eating 30g oats and half a scoop of protein for breakfast before training and the rest after.
My favourite shake of the day......Max's Nitetime chocolate Mousse flavour! Delicious!
A very early start today! Note the clock in the background says 5:11am. The early morning wakeup was worth the extra time at the gym to fit in the full session. My friend and I also booked a shared PT session next week which I am excited about! I want to keep mixing things up so I can stay motivated. People at my gym are really friendly and another gym friend has offered to help me with training legs as she does powerlifting. I love being in an environment where everybody is working towards a common goal, to be healthy and fit. Luckily for me I have a supportive husband too when I get home so I feel I am surrounded by positivity :-)
Less than 2 weeks until our trip to Melbourne for the Arnold Classic!
Going to to set my alarm for a little earlier tomorrow, Tuesday workouts always take longer. Luckily I have everything ready to go so all I need to do in the morning is put my lunch in my esky and off I go. Prepared to succeed! Failing to prepare = preparing to fail. :-)
Week One Review
This week has been a great start to the 12 weeks. I have been very tired but Nathan has been a great support and doing most of the nightly meals so I can rest after work. I feel I have gone hard with my training and am proud that I have lifted heavier weights than the week before. I also tried a new class at the gym this morning, BarAttack which was interesting, I am sure I will feel the true impact of the workout tomorrow as there was a lot of squats!
I have decided that at the end of the 12 weeks I am going to buy a piece of jewellery as a reward for my efforts and to remind myself of the dedication, commitment and strength I have shown. I know I will be proud of myself at the end :-)
Looking forward to another week of clean, healthy meals and hard workouts!
7km run and 2km walk this morning!
Ready for 6am cardio box!
Stocked up with Maxine's products for the next 12 weeks!
Ready for a 6am Tabata class!
Day 2 complete! Weights in the morning and a short walk and 15 min stretch class this arvo. feeling awesome!
A great start to the challenge! A morning workout with Nathan and a short afternoon walk with our dog Stella. I did my measurements this evening for my fit book, looking forward to looking at them in 12 weeks time and seeing great changes.
