Reason to start The Challenge

Like everyone, last year certainly delivered many challenges! Ontop of COVID, I was dealing with a painful divorce, battling anxiety & depression and struggling to find my feet after 20yrs of marriage.. as a single, working mum of 3. I had also recently lost both my Dad & step-dad to Cancer, and had multiple health issues & surgeries of my own. Amidst all of this, naturally.. I had lost myself. My self care, my self worth, knowing who I was & what I wanted.. wasn't even on my radar. That is, until around August last year.. when I had had enough! I couldn't do it anymore. Something just clicked & I knew I couldnt continue the way I was.. sad & unhealthy. I came across Maxine's Challenge on Facebook, and I thought.. that's it, this is what I'm going to do, this is my starting point to turning my life around, getting fit & healthy & taking the time to re-discover myself again. But, my-god.. I was not prepared for just how much my life would change! The September 'Tone & Shape' Challenge.. I joined a gym, I meal-pepped like a boss, I worked out, I committed. I started taking time for me, and I fell in love with it! I fell in love with healing, I feel in love with getting to know myself again & putting myself first.. and I fell in love with the amazing results, the positive comments on how well I was looking.. and the feeling of being 'strong' again. I feel like, that was phase 1.. getting familiar with the program & routine, feeling confident in the weights room, and starting on my 'fit journey'. So, when the January Challenge came up.. how could I not join!! I'm SO ready for phase 2.. I've chosen 'Get Strong' this round.. and I am beyond excited to get started and see the results, to push my limits, see what my body is truly capable of, and fingers crossed.. make the Top 50! Watch this space.. 😁💪👊❤️

What did you like most about The Challenge?

I honestly have loved everything about the Challenge! The training & nutrition plans were super simple, easy follow & loved how customisable they are. I've learnt so much about portion sizes, meal prepping and correct use of supplements, as well as gained so much more confidence and knowledge in the gym! Most of all though, i couldn't have done it without the incredible support of the Facebook group of fellow challengers and the Max's/Maxine's team - they've honestly become like a second family!

What was the hardest thing about your Challenge?

For me, it was only finding the time to workout! I'm a single, full time working Mum to three teenage girls, and juggling that with time for myself to workout everyday was certainly a challenge on its own. But, if you want something bad enough, you find a way to make it work, and.. I wanted it bad! My girls have been my biggest supporters throughout the Challenge, helping with cooking dinners & housework so I could go & workout, and would constantly tell me how proud they were of me for 'killing it'. So yes, while at times that aspect was difficult.. we made it work, and there's no better pay off than having your daughters see you the happiest, healthiest most confident version of yourself.

What impact has The Challenge had on your life?

I know it's a little cliche to say it has been 'life changing' - but honestly, Maxine's has changed my life. At the end of last year, I needed a change. I'd just turned 40, had been through a painful divorce, had a multitude of health issues, was unhealthy, unhappy, uninspired and the kind of person who despised exercise! I got the point where I decided enough was enough and.. that's when Maxine's came along! In only 12 short weeks, I am the complete opposite to who I was then. The woman I am now, can't go more than a day without going to gym, meal preps like a boss, is 100% happier, healthier and more confident than she's ever been - and have to say, I'm loving her!

What would you say to people who are thinking of doing The Challenge?

Just do it - if you're 100% ready for change and 100% committed, the Challenge will seriously change your life. Over the past 20yrs, I have tried EVERY fad diet, every health & fitness plan out there and Maxine's has been the ONLY one I've stuck to til the end! The amazing support you get from everyone really helps to keep you motivated, and put simply.. It just works. So stop thinking & just do it... I'll be signing up for the next Challenge, so look forward to being there alongside you!

Anything else you would like to tell us about your Challenge?

What an absolute ride! I have met so many amazing people and have loved every second of the Challenge. I cannot wait to start the next round & smash my next goals! On day 1 I set myself 3 mini goals for the challenge (to achieve a nicely defined back, to do 5 unassisted chin ups and to finish week 12!) and I'm so happy to say, I reached all 3 of them! I actually get teary when I think about just how far I've come, and how proud I am of what I've been able to achieve the past 12 weeks. So a huge thankyou to the Max/Maxine's team, for helping me re-discover the strong, beautiful & empowered woman that's been hiding for so long! ❤️
