Reason to start The Challenge

I’ve lost consistency, motivation and accountability over the past 4 years. I’m hoping Maxines Challenge will help me get on track and make better nutrition choices and gain consistency in my training.

What did you like most about The Challenge?

The nutrition and exercise plans were super easy to follow and also to adjust to suit individual needs. I didn't need to eat anything I didn't enjoy which made it easier to stick to. The support from the coaches, forums and even other challengers was fantastic. I felt like I had a family there supporting me.

What was the hardest thing about your Challenge?

As an older challenger, managing injury was the most difficult thing I had to deal with. I have a history of knee and back issues which prevented me from doing cardio other than walking. I thought I would have to pull out of the challenge at one stage. A quick discussion on the forum and advice from the coaches to just keep my steps up and focus on the training I could do was enough to leave me confident enough to continue.

What impact has The Challenge had on your life?

So much positive impact. I'm more confident, have more energy and generally happier. I have routine and motivation. My relationship food has improved. Last week I took the kids to Skyzone to do trampolining and I actually joined in! 12 weeks ago, I would of sat out and had coffee & cake. I make better choices more often since doing the challenge. I am also able to forgive myself and move on if I do deviate from the plan.

What would you say to people who are thinking of doing The Challenge?

Anything else you would like to tell us about your Challenge?

The Maxine's Challenge was just what I needed to get my life back on track. After 4 years, I'm finally training again and eating well. The challenge has changed me from the inside out and from top to bottom. I had tried myself to "diet" in the past but never got further than 2 or 3 days. 12 weeks in and I'm enjoying this new life!

    We are almost at the end. I can’t believe that after 4plus years of being unable to commit to any form of nutrition or exercise routine, the Maxines Challenge had my back once again. I feel great. I’m stronger, I move better and my cravings are under control as I’m enjoying good food again! My weight this morning was 62.5kg. I questioned the scale when I seen this and will only be sure it wasn’t a mistake if I get confirmation tomorrow. That would be 11.5kg lost!

    Woohoo! Jumped on the scales today snd I’ve surpassed my 10kg loss goal! Pretty happy right now. I still have done NO CARDIO other than walking due to being afraid to upset my knees or back. It’s very refreshing to know that you don’t have to do classes, running, burpees or anything that makes you uncomfortable. All I needed was the right nutrition & training guide as well as done great products!

    It’s been raining in Brisbane for quite a few days now, and realistically probably closer to 14 days on & off. Walking is my only cardio so this week it was necessary to pull out the raincoat to get my steps in. Still more enjoyable than a treadmill. Going mostly well with training and nutrition although o allowed myself a hot cross bun on Easter Sunday snd a small amount of chocolate. I did not eat til I was sick as I would usually do on this occasion. 300gms til I hit the 10kg weight loss goal I set myself!

    I was a tad disappointed when I first compared week 8 progress to week 4. I couldn’t see much difference. I then took the time to notice the changes I have seen in real life (back, chest, shoulders). When I looked closer at these areas in particular, I could see changes. I am definitely stronger and my body is feeling so much better than 8 weeks ago when I nearly pulled out of the challenge due to injury. I’m so glad I’ve stuck with it! I was hoping to crack the 66kg mark over the weekend but it wasn’t happening. Ready to smash the next 4 weeks out of the park!

    I’m really enjoying training again. It’s been a long time since I could say this. I’m certain it’s because of the results I’m seeing through doing this challenge. Today I was able to increase my latpulldown to 60kg which I have never done before. I also added in some pull-ups into the session as I’ve set a goal for 5 unassisted pull-ups by the end of the challenge. It’s a big ask, but I’m keen to give it my best shot! Over the course of the challenge I’ve also dropped the level of assistance on the pull-ups and tricep dips. Love seeing these results! I’m starting to get comments from oriole at the gym and also friends about my “shape” and change in general. So happy right now even though my weight hasn’t changed for a few days.

    I’m feeling great! Another successful leg day. They are getting more consistent. Today I upped my squat to 60kg and it felt good. I completed my workout and felt so pleased with myself I treated myself with a 10 minute walk on the stair master. 😂 Happy with a further, all be it small, scale drop

    This week , aside from the scale loss which has slowed down, I’m most happy with my increase in strength. I’ve noticed in this weeks sessions, deadlifts, lat pull down and deficit push ups I am feeling a lot stronger in. I had a below average weekend with training and nutrition but feeling great to get straight back into it.

    Weights are going fairly well. It’s a different training method to what I’ve done in the past.What I do love are the 10 minutes circuits at the end. I don’t love them at the time though! I took some practise photos today but didn’t have another person here to get the same angles. I’ll post them here s as my way. My weight was down a bit this morning. It still fluctuates a little. I can feel in my belly the days that I will weigh more. I still haven’t managed cardio other than walking due to constant injury. I’ve been doing a lot of stretching so am hoping some mobility will help with this. Sometimes I need to remember my body isn’t as agile as I like to think it should be!

    I decided to have a rest from weights today and just do a walk. My knee is feeling a little better and I’m hoping a rest will do it good. My weight dropped 200gms from yesterday. The one thing I have noticed is that I am MUCH less bloated than before starting the challenge. I am feeling lighter and have more energy.

    Morning walk, legs day Aaaaand a 2nd walk today. It’s seeming like walking may be my only cardio for a bit so today when I had to have the day off work unexpectedly, I was able to get a 2nd walk in. Weigh went down a little again. My lifts are quite light. I hadn’t done deadlifts for about 4 years before the challenge so I’ve started at 60kg. My body seems quite vulnerable to injury so not wanting to push too hard. Hopefully I can increase on the next 4 week block.

    This morning I managed a slow walk with the dogs and workout 1 (chest/back/biceps). I was running a bit behind schedule due to the walk taking so long and was unable to do the 10 minute finisher circuit. I went home, threw together the kid’s lunches & did the first of my morning school run. Then I came home and done the circuit before the next school run. It wasn’t ideal, but mum life dictates sometimes. After school drop I went to the local “stairs of death” and did another slow-ish walk. I’m going to take measurements today. I forgot at the beginning.

    My knee is still giving me trouble. Doctor seems to think it’s ITBS. As mush as it kills me, I’m going to give it done rest for a few days. I’ll ice it and do some of the recommended stretches. I’ll be able to do some ab work which and make sure my nutrition is 100% on point. I css as my control what has happened but I can control my reaction to it. My weight last week was frustrating me, I was loosing 100gms per day mostly but 2 days had put on 100grams. This morning I had a drop to 69.9! Glad to see a 6 at the front!

    I’ve had to work with my pain boundaries this week but have manage to do well I think. I have stuck to the nutrition plan which I’m proud of. Wednesday was supposed to HIIT day but I’m swapping that around til I feel 100%. I took a rest day. Today’s circuit was an absolute killer!!

    In a not so unusual setback, I twinged my back this morning while I was putting my shoes on! I am getting older and this type of this occurs more often than I’d like to admit. I still managed to do a slow-ish walk. I’d already committed with the dogs so to not go would of been a catastrophic event for them! I think I’ll go get a massage today and try to get it sorted. I will ensure my nutrition is 100% on point while I get this sorted.

    So, I've spent the week following the advice for prep week. I've gone through the nutrition plan and tweaked it to my own likes/dislikes. The one thing I know for sure is that if anything is forced, I wont do it, so its important I remove the tuna ASAP!! I removed a lot of tempting food from the house and contained the rest to a cupboard just for the kids. No need for me to be in there at all. Even bought new running shoes! Pretty new things motivate me! Haha. Today I am going through the training plan and have decided to give the advanced a go. I want to challenge myself.
