Reason to start The Challenge

My reason for entering Maxine’s Challenge is very important to me. When I was 15 I went through a number of mental health problems due to being over weight the majority of my youth, which resulted in me losing 20kgs extremely fast and dangerously - Which took a massive toll on my mental and psychical health.
I want to do Maxine’s to prove to myself that I can do it again, and in a healthy way. With the fabulous support group the community has already shown, I couldn’t be more motivated and excited to smash this challenge with everything I’ve got! Despite the hardships that will come along with it.

What did you like most about The Challenge?

The flexibility. Unlike other ‘diets’ or programs I have tried, the results that have come from being so flexible have really taught me that you don’t need to do extreme amounts of cardio or totally cut carbs to achieve amazing results.

What was the hardest thing about your Challenge?

Probably a mixture of trying to juggle training with my job and still keeping a social life. I am a barber so I spend long hours on my feet all day repeating the same motions - when it reached the end of the day I would really struggle to find motivation but past the first 4 weeks I got a burst of determination and I MADE it work. For the social side, it was hard for people to understand why I had to do this challenge which sometimes triggered bad thoughts in my head. I will admit I did slip up a few times during social events but balance is healthy! If anything I have learnt that it’s okay to indulge within limits - It won’t reverse all your progress and there’s no need to be hard on yourself.

What impact has The Challenge had on your life?

The challenge has shown me that I am in control. Previously to the challenge I would over indulge / make bad nutrition choices because of my environment. Now that I’ve seen results with such flexible nutrition (carbs, fats, cheese, burn bars) I don’t feel like I have to deprive myself. My confidence is getting better every week and my mental health improving, Anxiety is a big part of my life and I think getting in the gym and sweating it out is a vital coping mechanism for me

What would you say to people who are thinking of doing The Challenge?

Honestly just go for it. It will be hard and you will feel like you just want to give up and go get that takeaway you always think about - But it’s 12 weeks. It’s true when everyone says ‘trust in the process’ because it really does work. It will take your body and your mind a bit to get used to the lifestyle change, but once you hit a certain point it feels so good you literally won’t ever want to stop. Maxine’s/Max’s also offers a REAL support group that can also give you that little push you might need if you’re ever feeling like you want to give up.

Anything else you would like to tell us about your Challenge?

I used to be a purely cardio kind of gym junkie before the challenge. I would do fasted cardio first thing in the morning and spend heaps of time on the treadmill. The results you really want and the results that STAY come with strength training and a mixture of cardio. You don’t need to spend hours on the treadmill to achieve results. Pick up the dumbbells it won’t make you look like Arnold Schwarzenegger🤟🏼

    Moving house has really taken up a lot of my time. Work yesterday. Work today 8-5pm. Now unpacking and trying to clean as much as I possibly can. Hopefully I can do as much as possible tomorrow as well so I can really smash the last week

    Cannot believe it’s almost the beginning of week 11, absolutely insane! Going to really switch on mentally and push through the training. Feeling the calorie deficit though 😂

    Life is so hectic at the moment. Work, moving house and now onto the last weeks of the challenge, fitting in the gym can be so time consuming but boy does it feel worth it. Super tired but super committed to pump out these last 3 weeks as hard as I possibly can

    Wow. I can’t believe it’s already week 8. It’s gone pretty fast but at the same time I feel like it drags on 😂 Feeling hungry but still motivated to hit the gym and smash it out. Scared for check in though!!!!

    I feel like there’s a lot going on during the challenge. Trying to keep up with podcasts, the weekly subject, training, nutrition and how many calories/ macros we need. I feel like I’m only just reaching the bare minimum when it comes to meeting the requirements. My brain is running in manic mode at the moment, juggling everything with work, social life and now moving house - I feel like I’m going to burst

    Yep. Come down with a flu. Thankfully today is my day off work and I can rest. Got the peppermint tea, vit c and oil diffuser out.... I gotta get better ASAP!!!

    Could feel myself getting sick the past week, and it’s finally hit me 😞 Not happy at all but still going to smash through my training, feeling like I’ve been hit by a bus

    Thanks to the fb group I went down to chemist warehouse to restock on burn bars 🥰 The cookies were there too so I HAD to grab a couple of them to try - not too sure if I’m the biggest fan, tastes like a brownie but a little powdery for me. Gonna stick to my berry and caramel crunch burn bars

    Set an alarm this morning for 5am to eat some breakfast and get my ass to the gym (for the third time but never pushed through to get out of bed) and I did it!! Honestly the best time to go. As much as I didn’t want to get up, I forced myself and now am able to spend the night relaxing after work. Plus gave me a MASSIVE energy boost for the day 💪🏻

    First session today on legs on my own after a run through with my PT. Felt nervous and silly - I was pretty self conscious on whether I was doing what I was doing properly, with everyone in the gym witnessing it. The workout was hard and had to step down some workouts in order for me to complete them all - but I did it. Felt leaving satisfied but could have pushed a bit more
